Sex Ed’s Exaggerated Claims - Posted by Chad Hills on CitizenLink

Washington Times columnist, Cheryl Wetzstein, makes some poignant observations in her article, 'Lack' of sex ed is exaggerated. She compares the actual data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding sex education and knowledge of birth control against the exaggerated claims that “more money, more condoms and more birth-control education” are needed.

In truth, “access” to birth control or condoms is not the issue, nor is there a supposed “shortage” of birth-control education among teens.  Sex outside of marriage is the issue. And, it’s not as “safe” as Planned Parenthood, SIECUS and liberal pre-marital sex advocates would have teens and the U.S. Congress believe.  Continue reading…

Democrats and Republicans Agree

If Democrats and Republicans in California can agree on important marriage and family issues, then the rest of the nation should follow.  The California Healthy Marriages Coalition (CHMC) conducted a survey entitled The State of California’s Unions to determine views on marriage, divorce, and marriage education across the state.  The results of the survey revealed plenty of common ground:

1) The vast majority surveyed see divorce as a serious national problem.

2)  There is bi-partisan support that couples should get a discount on the marriage license fee if they participate in at least 8 hours of premarital education.

3) Four out of five people agree that a married couple with children should be required to attend education classes or couple’s counseling before the divorce is granted.

4)  Many divorced respondents believe that their divorce negatively affected their children to a great or some extent.

5)  The majority of those divorced report that they or their spouse could have worked harder to save the marriage.

Dennis Stoica, CHMC President, states, "We are encouraged by the research results because they show how much Californians value family stability, and we know that Relationship and Marriage Education plays a big role in helping couples have this in their lives.  Much like our state, our executive leadership at CHMC is also politically divided, yet we unite on essential marriage and societal issues, including the fundamental importance of a healthy family and its benefits for children, couples, and society."

The South Carolina Healthy Family Formation Coalition (SC HFF Coalition) is organized and staffed by Heritage Community Services. The SC HFF Coalition promotes child and family well-being by providing opportunities for statewide communication about such issues as: adolescent pregnancy, unwed childbearing, fatherlessness, sexual exploitation of our youth, dating violence and domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, gang activity and youth violence.

Coalition members support healthy family formation initiatives that integrate character-based life skills, teen pregnancy prevention with an emphasis on abstinence-centered education, and the importance of fidelity-within-marriage.

Together we can impact our culture so that forming healthy families becomes a norm, rather than the exception, for South Carolina.

Please, forward this E-News to interested friends, family and colleagues and ask them to consider joining the Coalition.
