SC Healthy Family Formation Coalition E-News!

A recent article, in Charleston’s Post & Courier entitled ‘Choosing to be child-free’, described several reasons for not having children.  Of particular concern were views expressed about the dangers of worldwide over-population.

This week, statisticians at Oregon State University released a report detailing the environmental reasons NOT to have children in order to reduce the human carbon footprint.  The “impact of a child born in the U.S., along with all his or her descendants, is more than 160 times that of a Bangladeshi child.”

Fears about population increases to 9 billion by mid-century, lack of food and water and global warming are all listed as reasons to NOT populate the earth.

This myth, popularized in the 70’s by Paul Ehrlich’s book The Population Bomb, embraced by the United Nations and institutionalized by academia, resulted in several generations convinced that they would harm our planet if they had more than 2 children.

I would urge you to order Demographic Bomb and Demographic Winter. Both documentaries feature Liberal, Conservative, and Progressive scholars; all in agreement that worldwide population decline, not increase, is a looming destructive problem.

Demographic Bomb reports that world population has already declined by 50% over the past fifty years contributing to the current and future economic collapse in the U.S. and beyond.  It predicts that within 40 years the U.S. will begin to see a dramatic decline in population as the boomers die off and there are not enough children to replace them.  Over 90 countries and territories are already unsustainable because there are not enough people to support their economies.

Demographic Winter focuses on the relationship between family structure, population decline, economy and ultimately child well-being.  Poverty is not so much a result of low income as it is chaotic family formation.

The healthy formation of families where children are raised by their own married biological parents is presented as the 'gold standard' for sustainable population growth.

You're Teaching My Child What?: A Physician Exposes the Lies of Sex Ed and How They Harm Your Child

by Dr. Miriam Grossman

If you think sex education is still about the birds and the bees, you're wrong. And it's not about science either.

If you're a parent with children in the public school system, you need to know what's really going on.

In You're Teaching My Child What? Dr. Miriam Grossman rips back the curtain on sex education today, exposing a sordid truth. Instead of teaching our children the facts of life, sex educators are lying to them, ignoring medical fact in favor of politicized, and dangerous, propaganda.  Read more and order the book…

Gonorrhea and Sexual Promiscuity Increase Prostate Cancer Risk

A study conducted at the University of Michigan has found that men who had previously suffered from gonorrhea have a higher risk of getting prostate cancer.

Another risk factor is having multiple sex partners - having had more than 25 sexual partners in a man’s lifetime also raises his risk of prostate cancer to over 2.5 times that of men who have had less than six sex partners. Read more…

Boston debutes new "safe sex" campaign

Designed to decrease the transmission of STDs, the Boston Public Health Commission devoted its entire $100,00 budget to a new campaign to address the 70% increase in Chlamydia since 1999. The campaign avoids all mention of the single way to completely stop the spread of STDs - abstinence!  Read more here

DC to Offer STD tests in every high school

The city has the highest AIDS rate in the nation and half of the city's cases of STDs are among adolescents. To confront the problem, school officials are planning to offer confidential STD testing in all high schools.  The measure addresses the symptoms but not the source of the problem. The South Carolina Healthy Family Formation Coalition (SC HFF Coalition) is organized and staffed by Heritage Community Services. The SC HFF Coalition promotes child and family well-being by providing opportunities for statewide communication about such issues as: adolescent pregnancy, unwed childbearing, fatherlessness, sexual exploitation of our youth, dating violence and domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, gang activity and youth violence.

Coalition members support healthy family formation initiatives that integrate character-based life skills, teen pregnancy prevention with an emphasis on abstinence-centered education, and the importance of fidelity-within-marriage.

Together we can impact our culture so that forming healthy families becomes a norm, rather than the exception, for South Carolina.

Please, forward this E-News to interested friends, family and colleagues and ask them to consider joining the Coalition.
