Sample Letter to a Principal To Whom It May Concern: As a parent of a _____________ school student, I am very concerned about the messages that my children are receiving in regards to sex and how to avoid pregnancy and STDs. It is imperative that, as adults, we send a clear message to our young people about how we expect them to behave. Abstinence is clearly the healthiest message that we can give our children. I am currently involved in a class at _____________ in which educators from Heritage Community Services are teaching the adults how to send a clear message to our teens that abstinence is the expected behavior. While the information about the dangers of STDs and pregnancy serves as a greatly needed wake-up call, this organization is offering much more than a “just say NO” message. They are teaching youth throughout the state, the importance of establishing personal values and goals, setting boundaries, building self-esteem, and learning how to live lives of character. These are skills that our young people need in order to resist the pressure to become sexually active so that they can focus on building healthy futures. Heritage Community Services has been working in the schools for over 10 years, and are receiving national attention for their evaluation results. The evaluation data, being published by the U.S. governments Office of Population Affairs, demonstrates that children that go through the program are initiating sexual activity at a rate 50 percent lower than that of teens that do not have the program. They are impacting behaviors! We owe it to our children to give them the healthiest message that will afford them every opportunity to reach their full potential without being sidelined by an unplanned pregnancy, an STD or the emotional baggage that comes with sex outside of marriage. Heritage Community Services is offering these programs at no cost to the school or students. They are doing an outstanding job of helping our students make healthy choices by avoiding sexual activity, and we need this program in all of our schools! I have enclosed more information about what Heritage is doing and how they can benefit our school.
